December. My information on this head is obtained from the statements of Mr. Campbell and Mr. Parker, and from a note of Mr. Campbell received by me on 28th May, a copy of which is enclosed, sent to me on 28th, with his permission. I beg to remark in reference to the first part of that note, that there is no present probability of the plaintiffs revisiting Hongkong, unless to institute further proceedings against me; I am informed that neither of them reside permanently at Macao, (one being now at Goa), and that a suit in the Macao Court to recover the costs, would, as you are aware, be extremely expensive and of doubtful issue, inasmuch as the cause of action arose without the jurisdiction of that Court.
I have further to add, that Mr. Parker acted as formal Prosecutor from 15th October 1846 to 14th December 1846, and from 9th November 1847 to 21st March of the present year, and that I have now satisfied his bill of costs, as will appear from the copy of the receipt enclosed.
